  • Nasher Prize Community BBQ with Michael Rakowitz
Join 2020 Nasher Prize Laureate Michael Rakowitz as he cooks traditional Iraqi dishes and Texas BBQ at F.A.R.M. 
Rakowitz will make the meal with help from Break Bread Break Borders, a Dallas-based catering company which economically empowers refugee women by employing them as cooks. The event welcomes the many communities with which Rakowitz often works, including veterans, Middle Eastern constituencies, as well as members of the Dallas public. Enjoy food, live music, dancing, and other activities at this lunchtime celebration.

  • 4MG Farm high tunnel finish out
Veteran owned 4MG Farm needs your help! After multiple injuries, they have gotten behind on their high tunnel build that inevitably will put them behind on their growing operation. 
Please help us help them finish their build!
You will also learn best practices for vegetable production.

  • Evans Homestead High Tunnel Build- free training opportunity
Evans Homestead is a veteran owned and operated farm. We need your help assisting them with the finish out their high tunnel. This class includes first hand experience assembling a high tunnel to ensure that your first project runs smoothly with minimal interruptions. NRCS Agents and Hopkins County Extension Agents will be on hand to provide information about funding opportunities that could benefit your operation. Perfect for seasoned growers or those new to crop production.  Lunch provided

  • Soil Health 101- free training opportunity
Understanding the basics of soil health, organic matter management , compost and plant based teas, how to scout for diseases and pests, weed management and finally beneficial insects that help protect your crops. Be prepared to get your hands dirty and bring your gloves. This class is great opportunity for both beginner and seasoned growers!

  • Produce food safety for military veterans- free training opportunity
          Are you a military veteran who is farming? What better way to continue your service to our nation providing high quality food to your community. Food safety is a critical part of any farm operation. This hands-on workshop provides an introduction to food safety for people who grow produce and provides important information you need to know in order to safely sell your products
          
  • Urban F.A.R.M. Tour
          Join us for a FREE farm tour of Farmers Assisting Returning Military (F.A.R.M.) Urban Farm Park 
F.A.R.M. is a local farm established by veterans for veterans. They produce specialty crops while providing  agricultural therapeutic rehabilitation.

          In partnership with Texas A&M Agrilife Extension - Dallas, we will be demonstrating and                   discussing proper care and maintenance of sheep and maintaining a healthy flock

          Come out and learn the ins and outs of how to build a high tunnel and best practices to maximize your high tunnel outputs. Chat with an NRCS agent to learn how financial assistance payments, as part of a Farm Bill  conservation contract in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for a high tunnel can benefit  you and your community.  

  • Urban Composting 101 
           Wonder what happens with all of the food waste that we pick up? Join the Turn and F.A.R.M teams for the volunteer workday and free composting basics class taught by Turn Compost.

Our Battle Ground to Breaking Ground cohorts will be hosting in partnership with Growin on Faith Farm, a hands on sheep workshop.
This workshop will cover care and maintenance of your sheep including:
-Applying ID tags
-Medication/Vaccination
-Castration
-Record Keeping
-Handling/Moving
-Hoof care
-Nutrition
-Behavioral knowledge &
selection
-Breed knowledge & selection
-Options for predator control
Whether you are just starting or have been in the game for a while, this class is open to everyone!
What to bring- Gloves, hat, sunscreen, water, boots.

High Tunnel season extension and best practices

Come out and learn the ins and outs of how to build a high tunnel and best practices to maximize your high tunnel outputs. Chat with an NRCS agent to learn how financial assistance payments, as part of a Farm Bill conservation contract in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for a high tunnel can benefit you and your community. 

Be sure to bring reusable water bottles, gloves, hat, closed toe shoes.
Snacks for breakfast with full lunch provided.
